Black Forest Cupcakes

These cupcakes are irresistible! I made these for a German themed book club event and they went over very well.  The only thing I changed was due to them having to travel a few hours in the car. I used a light vanilla buttercream as opposed to the recipes whipped topping. The buttercream was amazingly close in flavor to real whipped cream! I hope you enjoy these as much I have ❤️😊.

Wine Wednesday

Herederos Del Marués De Riscal

Over the last month, I have been falling in love with Spanish wines. This is rated on Vivino as in the top 2% of wine under $20.00 at a 3.9/5.0 rating. When the bottle caught our eye with its unique gold netting my dad and I thought we would check It out. 

We paired It as a nightcap to carnitas tacos for our weekly edition of Taco Tuesday and were very impresssed with it’s rich red color and medium body as displayed by the lasting legs. Cherries and plums on the nose subdued by a high alcohol content. Crisp dark berry flavors finished with a dry body and bonus notes of tobacco, leather and vanilla which give this blend a complex flavor similar to that of a Pinot Noir. The overall experience is great and I will definitely look for It in the future. I rated it a 4.0/5.0. It can be found at the link below if not at your local grocery.

A taster for the region 

Spain as It stands is the third largest producer/exporter of wine in the world today. They are so successful because of the regions ideal climate to grow many kinds of grapes. 🍇 
 The Rioja region for wine is considered to be in the north/ northwest of Spain. They are typically known for their spectrum of body. They produce wines that either have a rich dense flavor or wines that are light and crisp on the palette.

Bread Pudding with a Salted Caramel Drizzle


Bread pudding is one of my favorite desserts of all time! This was my first attempt at making it and It turned out to be very fast and wicked easy. The recipe was well written out and very helpful. I used the remaining day old Brioche bread which turned out to be the ideal texture and flavor I was going for. I did you use a slightly larger pan than the recipe in order to get more body out of my breadpudding. The next time I make It though, I will double the “sauce” in order to have a fuller body to the pudding. The 3/4 pudding and 1/4 crisp which is ideal for this dessert!

Buttery Brioche Bread! 


Home made Brioche Bread! This recipe took about 10 hours to put together but if you’re up for the challenge this Bread was amazing!  Just a quick note, most of that time was spent waiting for It to rise or set.I had never made this kind of bread from scratch before and the recipe was very thourugh. It also left the house smelling of buttery bread for hours which was an absolute plus! We used it for Banana Foster French Toast and Bread Pudding. Both of which will be up on the blog this week ❤️. Scratch Biscuits and Gravy


If you’re anything like me, there’s nothing better than biscuits and gravy on a cold fall morning. What a way to start the day with a coffee and a sold meal. I woke up at 7 this morning and had these ready by 8 to eat. The trick was making the biscuits first and placing them in the fridge while I made up the gravy. The biscuit recipe was very good but I would personally for this setup make sure your biscuits are larger by using a coffee mug or large glass. The gravy is just great to miss out on.

I ended up adding about a of cup of milk to the mixture. My sausage was pretty lean so that may have been why i had to add It as well. One tip though, if you do add milk be sure to adjust your salt accordingly to balance out the creaminess.

Easy 30 Minute Flat Bread Pizza

Flatbread Pizza’s have become one of my favorite things to make! The recipe for the crust takes about 20 minutes from start to finish.  The best part of a multifunctional recipe like this in your home cook book are the amazing number of options you have for It.  If you need a quick recipe or you’re in a pinch these recipes are always a family favorite in my house. 

The only things I change in this recipe are involving the procedure and application. For a Pizza this size with heavy toppings, I double the recipe and par bake It for about 7 minutes or until the top begins to bubble and brown. Then  set aside until ready to top. Once you top place back in the oven for 10-15 minutes until Cheese begins to look melted and crisp around the edges.

S’mores Cupcake

This was a great recipe! Very time intensive and a lot of steps but well worth it! My biggest tip with this recipe is to make sure you read the directions carefully and have your ingredients in front of you ready to go. Also, put the frosted cupcakes in the oven for 2 minutes and rotate the pan placing them in for one more minute. As the nights get colder I hope this recipe will warm you up well! Enjoy!

Chilled Cookies and Cream Cupcakes

 Ingredients 


Frosting
:
 

* 2 cups unsalted butter creamed slightly softened

* 6 cups powdered sugar or until thick*

* 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract

* 1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream 

* 1/4 cup of half and half

* 10 oreos finely chopped and sifted on

Cupcakes

* 1/2 cup butter unsalted

* 1 1/2 cups sugar 

* 4 eggs

* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

* 1 cup of all purpose flour

* 2/3 cup of bread flour

* 1/2 cup baking cocoa

* 1 teaspoon baking soda

* 1/4 teaspoon salt

* 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream

* 1/2 cup of water 

Time to bake!  

1.  Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, cream a 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and 1 and a 1/2 cup of sugar until fluffy. Scrape the bowl with a spatula so that your mix is in the center of the bowl.
2.  In a small bowl crack 4 eggs and whisk together with your two teaspoons of vanilla extract. Add mixture and using your spatula make sure you get as much of the egg mixture as possible. Beat at a medium speed for 2 minutes then beat on high for an two additional minutes.
3.  In a medium size bowl: Combine 1 cup of all purpose flour, 2/3 cup of bread flower, 1/2 cup of sifted baking cocoa, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Add dry ingredients into butter mixture. Beat on low for 2 minutes, then medium for 2-5 minutes or until well mixed.
4. In a small bowl whisk your 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream. Add this into the batter and slowly mix in until cupcake batter takes on a smooth mousse or pudding consistency. Be sure to utilize your spatula and scrape the sides one last time and beat on high for two minutes for a perfect consistency. 
5. The recipe makes 24 cupcakes so fill your paper lined cups two thirds full and bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Make sure to check though by inserting a toothpick and making sure that there’s no batter present. Let cool completely before frosting. 🙂
Cookies and Cream Frosting



1. In a large mixing bowl beat your 2 cups of softened unsalted butter. Should take 2-5 minutes. Once the butter is creamed add 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract, 1/4 cup of whipping cream, 1/4 cup of half and half. Beat on high until fully mixed with a smooth appearance. Mixing on a slow to medium speed add 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time until frosting is thick and maintains its ripples after mixing. .To give it the appearance of soft serve ice cream as seen in the picture above. 2. Welcome back! I hope the video was helpful! Alright now, go ahead and crush 10 Oreos whole. You can do this with either a food processor or in a plastic bag with a rolling pin. Place your crushed Oreo in a  flour sifter or emptied salt shaker. Using your sifter, distribute the Oreo powder over each cupcake as desired. These cupcakes are meant to be served cold so be sure to place them in an airtight container and in the fridge until served.

Wine Wednesday 


Belle Glos Dairy Man Pinot Noir

Traditionally in my family we drink wine with most meals but recently my pops and I have gotten into reviewing wine. Nothing like eating good food and drinking great wine with your best friend. We currently rate through an app called Vivino which helps us find great wine and acts  as pandora does for music. In the words of my pops “life’s too short to drink bad wine.”

 What better day than Wednesday to uncork a bottle of a personal favorite and share!

This bottle immediately caught my attention because of the melted wax over the seal. Difficult to get off but striking enough to set it apart. 

We held and drank the Pinot noir at the suggested temp of 50 degrees. It had a spicy yet sweet aroma with none of the “funkiness” of your traditional Pinot Noir. The flavor was complex which is my favorite part of drinking a Pinot Noir. You can get as little or as much out of it as you would like. 

The most interesting part of this particular wine was it’s full bodied nature and smooth flavor. It had the fullest body of any Pinot Noir I have seen. The “legs” remained 15 minutes after it’s last sip! Truly, it almost drank like a cab.  I rated it a five out of five on vivino and you should definitely try it! It is above my normal 15-30.00$ range but I assure you it’s well worth it!
